How To Make A Window Pane Mirror

First, thanks then much for all the dainty comments and e-mails after my post terminal Friday about keeping all the balls in the air.  It truly does bring me some calm to know we're all in the same boat.  Some days it feels a piddling more crushing than others, though, yous know?

I've loved this wait for awhile but hadn't found a reasonably priced ready-made 1 around, so gathered upward some hardware store materials and set up out to make ane.  Hither's how you tin too:

Materials:

• 42″ ten 36″ mirror
• two – 8′ poplar 1x4s
• 4 – 4′ poplar hobby boards, 3″ wide
• iv – iv′ poplar hobby boards, ane 1/two″ wide
• iii – 8′ pieces thin trim moulding (something relatively flat looks best)
• finishing/brad nails – anything less than 3/4″ long
• black semi-gloss paint
• clear adhesive
• hanging hardware – band hooks and wire

Steps:

Cutting the 1x4s with 45º angles at each stop – 2@45″ long and 2@39″ long.  Measurement are from the LONGER end of the angles, non the shorter.

Lay the boards on the floor to make a rectangle.

Align ane of the 4′, 3″ poplar boards across the meridian and nail into place, making sure the edges align.  Then repeat along the bottom Wouldn't you know I don't have a moving picture of this stride?!  Simply enquire if this isn't articulate.

Cutting the remaining iii″ poplar boards into two 32″ pieces with directly edges and boom along the sides of the rectangle.  These boards are what hold the frame together then make sure y'all are carefully lining all the pieces up and holding them together while yous're securing the poplar boards.  A corner clamp on the one×4's helps.

Adjacent, lay two of the 1 one/2″ poplar boards beyond the top and bottom and nail into place.  Then cut the remaining  1 ane/ii″ poplar boards into two 36″ pieces and blast along the sides.  This gives you lot a lip inside which the mirror will sit.

Paint the inside rim blackness – otherwise the mirror volition reverberate the blank woods once it'south in identify!

Run a thick bead of clear agglutinative all along the inside rim and then press the mirror into place (back side up).

Let the mirror lay flat and dry overnight.

One time it's dry, paint the rest of the frame and the trim moulding for the "panes" black.  Brand sure you paint both sides of the trim moulding.

Flip the mirror right side up and mark the eye points along each side.  Measure the distance from point to signal and cut your trim moulding with straight edges to this measurement.  Run a bead of adhesive forth the back and printing into place straight on the mirror.

Repeat with two more than pieces to grade your horizontal panes.

Next marker the center points across the top and bottom.  Measure each section and cut trim moulding to fit, and then apply adhesive and printing into place.  You want the near snug fit possible here.

Echo on either side of the centre department to complete the panes.

To hang, screw ring hooks into the dorsum on either side, so the tops of the hooks are most ix″ from the top of the mirror.  Adhere hanging wire from hook to hook.

The finished mirror will be heavy then make sure you utilize an appropriate pic hanging hook when y'all go to hang information technology on the wall!
